Baydon Chappell – Project Manager
Baydon has been with MAP Projects since 2010, bringing over 15 years of hands-on experience and proven leadership to complex civil projects across Aotearoa and the Pacific. Starting his career on the shovel, Baydon learned the industry from the ground up—developing practical expertise in machinery operation, earthworks, and team leadership. This foundation gives him a unique ability to anticipate challenges and deliver solutions that keep projects moving.
Baydon specializes in large-scale infrastructure and hydropower projects, with a track record that speaks for itself. He successfully managed hydro schemes in Samoa and Vanuatu under some of the toughest conditions imaginable but despite these challenges, Baydon delivered high-quality outcomes, including over 400m³ of site-batched concrete and 1.4km of large-diameter pipe installation through steep terrain and active slips. His foresight in safeguarding works, pre-staging critical materials, and adapting schedules kept projects on track and reinforced client confidence.
His leadership extends beyond technical delivery. Baydon has trained and mentored local crews with little or no civil experience, transforming them into safe, productive teams. This ability to build capability while maintaining quality and safety standards is a hallmark of his approach.
Baydon’s achievements include leading the award-winning Brenwe hydropower project on Malekula Island, which won the 2025 CCNZ Project Excellence Award ($5M–$20M category). He was also highly commended in the CCNZ Zed Z Personal Improvement Award, reflecting his commitment to growth and excellence. Currently, Baydon is managing a major irrigation dam project in Northland, applying his deep expertise in bulk earthworks and complex project logistics.
